So, I have seen many people with blogs, and decided to do one too. Being on bed rest has had its challenges, but I am definitely grateful for the miracle of pregnancy. I have felt isolated and alone a lot of the times...I mean I know I am not alone, but being restricted to the house pretty much only in going to Dr and my upcoming shower; I really spend every day in bed or on the couch.
For those who do not know why some women have to be on such strict bed rest is because some of us have what's called an incompetent cervix...which means the weight of pregnancy is too much for the cervix and it starts to shorten/open to soon. Luckily for me I was seeing a specialist and, they discovered my cervix length was 1.8 cm, it is supposed to be above 3 cm. I hadn't started to dilate and my cervix was still closed, so they did and emergency cerclage which is a stitch that is helping keep me cervix in place and from opening too soon. It is also God's miracle. By being on strict bed rest, I keep as much pressure off my cervix which was too short. I am not supposed be on my feet for long period of time. The good news is that getting pregnant is not the problem is staying pregnant. The Doctors didn't that was my problem until it happened so if I do get pregnant again, I will have to have a cerclage done, but earlier in my pregnancy while my cervix still has a lot of length. I won't have to be on such strict bed rest if/when there is a next time ,but at least now we have an idea.
They still don't know if this is what happened with my last pregnancy and caused Kaitlyn to come early...I had an acute infection. They don't know what could have come first; my cervix opening unknowingly and that caused the infection or the infection caused me to go into preterm labor...we will never know for sure and I am OK with that, I mean we have to come to peace with not knowing for sure, but thank God we were able to see what was happening with this pregnancy before it was too late...
